Supporting Sanitation First

To help combat the global sanitation crisis, Ingram Winter Green in London has supported Sanitation First, a charity with the aim of providing people in India and Africa with access to safe and hygienic toilet facilities.

Sanitation First is “tackling poverty one toilet at a time”, building toilets for families, schools and communities. The charity has even developed their own self-composting eco-toilet called Ecosan, which converts organic waste into a safe soil conditioning compost and fertiliser. People can then use or sell the compost, so it not only actively benefits the environment but also benefits the people economically.

Over the years we have supported their work in many ways, such as making corporate donations and our lawyers donating part of their fees. One of our partners, Paul Sheeter, has visited an East Indian village near Pondicherry where we helped fund the building of a new shower and toilet complex. We also helped build  new homes with toilet facilities for a families in Sri Lanka after the tsunami and constructed over 5000  ecosan toilets that are now in good use .

‘The importance of the work Sanitation First does giving respect, dignity and hope to some of the poorest people in the world cannot be understated,’ says Paul Sheeter, partner in the property team at Ingram Winter Green, ‘We are delighted to be able to lend our support by contributing to their fundraising initiatives.’
